Porcelain Dental Crowns in Clapton, Hackney
Dental crowns are caps that are placed over teeth and held in place by dental adhesive. They cover the entire chewing surface of the tooth. Porcelain Crowns are generally made from either plastic resin or porcelain.
Your tooth is initially prepared for your crown; this will involve removing most of the outer surface and leaving a solid inner core. The amount of teeth removed will be the same as the thickness of the crown.
We will then take a mould of the prepared tooth, one of the opposing jaws, and usually another to mark the way you bite. Two visits are generally required to complete the treatment in our Upper Clapton Dental Practice.
Dental crowns are used for numerous reasons:
- As a protective cover for a badly decayed tooth or fractured tooth.
- As a permanent restoration for a tooth with a large filling.
- To correct minor problems in your natural teeth like spacing irregular shape, or severe discolouration.
Frequently Asked Questions About Porcelain Crowns:
How long do crowns last, and how do I care for them?
Crowns are made of materials that don’t deteriorate over time. However, the supporting tooth is still prone to decay and gum disease.
The ceramic on the surface of the dental crown can sometimes chip or become fractured. Avoid chewing excessively hard substances like ice or bones. Brushing daily and flossing are essential for maintaining good oral health and keeping the crown trouble-free. The most vulnerable part of the crown is the margin or the junction between tooth and crown.
Regular check-ups ensure that we can detect any problems with your crown and recommend necessary treatment.
How does a dentist prepare a tooth for a crown?
We will shape the tooth by removing a portion of the outer surface. Sometimes, we may have to build up the tooth’s core (particularly if a lot has broken off) with filling material or place a post into your tooth so that the crown has something to sit on.
Next, we will make an impression, make a mold of your teeth, and measure how you bite together. We will then record the shade of the adjacent teeth so that the new crown is an exact match for the other teeth. We then fit a temporary crown while the permanent crown is made so that the tooth looks and feels the same.
We Utilise Cerec Technology in Our NHS Dental Practice in Clapton
We use the latest in digital dental technology in our NHS dental practice for crowns, digital impressions, restorations, implantology, and surgical guides. CEREC technology is most commonly used for crown restorations. Ardent Smile Clinic pioneered CEREC dental technology and has been fabricating CEREC crowns for over two years! With the CEREC crown system, we offer a conservative approach to traditional crowns and we’re able to preserve more natural tooth structure. We skillfully create precise and efficient crown restorations that can be completed in a single visit. With CEREC technology, there are no longer two appointments and a waiting period for crown restorations. Our surgical guides are also constructed with CAM technology to bring accuracy and ease to implant surgery. Digital impressions are captured with CAD technology. This computerized process eliminates the traditional materials of the past, which can be messy and a concern for those with a sensitive gag reflex. The digital method simplifies dental impressions, and it’s more convenient and precise, which means a superior end result!
By utilizing the latest technology (CEREC), we provide modern dentistry, bringing you highly efficient and stress-free appointments.
